    • Hi. I am new to this forum and I would like to know the public's opinions on the current hot topic of wearing ankle socks to school. Recently, many students are wearing socks that go below their ankle and this has been casuing a commotion in many schools. Most schools have disallowed the wearing of such socks but the students still persist in doing so.

The main reason why ankle socks are disallowed because it "reflects a bad image on the school and yourself". But how does it affect your image and the school?

I would like to hear the public's opinions on ankle socks and do you find students wearing ankle socks unsightly. Thank you

    • It IS unsightly. Normal length socks looks neat and tidy. Ankle ones simply doesn't. Why? Perhaps entreched perception of the society. It's just like asking how a room is considered tidy. It is simply the standard of the society.

What's wrong with wearing normal socks, anyway? Rebelling for the sake of rebelling? Going against a set of simple rules just to prove to your friends that you can? Perhaps it makes the student feel important, a delusion of grandeur that he is changing sometime? Or maybe he's just a bloody attention whore.

i dun see why there is a need to ban ankle socks.

as long as its of a certain colour and not too showy should be ok.

my sec sch bans ankle socks.

      but my jc now doent.

i dun see how wearing ankle socks will tarnish the image of one sch and not the other.

whats wrong with wearing ankle socks anyway.

    • i dunno why schools are out to ban ankle socks. the reason for it is to get a nicer tan than normal socks which will leave rather fair marks on your legs. my secondary school used to be really strict bout it and still is. however in my jc they wouldnt care less.

    • that is normal. as you go further up the education ladder more emphasis is placed on your studies than your looks.

what you could do is approach your school principle if you're matey with him and get him to haf a student dialogue session. then you could address such problems including slope of hair.

are you sure the reason you are wearing ankle socks to get a nicer tan or is that just an excuse to go with the flow?

    • icon_confused.gif I don't understand what does the length of your socks have anything to do with being neat & tidy.

    • To Chewbacca987, perhaps you misinterpretted my idea. My point is not about wearing normal socks but whether ankle socks is acceptable in society though you have a god point about wearing normal socks. Nowadays, there is a misconception that we wear ankle socks for being rebellious but the teen way of thinking that wearing high socks look nerdy and geeky etc. Do you think that its because of that idea that people are wearing ankle socks?

no. ankle socks reveal your ankles so on girls it makes their legs sexier. if a guy wears ankle socks he just wants to be fashionable. i believe the main issue with schools banning ankle socks is because girls look sexier with it but schools arent willing to explain it in such a direct way so they simply regard ankle socks as an act of rebellion... thus this view that the act of wearing ankle socks is an act of rebellion.

personally i think ankle socks are perfectly okay.

but of course i'm a guy so thumbs_up.png

    • It just looks odd. It's not about being neat & tidy. Besides, I don't see how it is practical. Some people complain of blisters, yet they still wear ankle socks.
