Eating and shopping used to be our favourite past-time. We packed the food courts and shopping centres like nobody's business. Although we still need to shop and eat, we don't do it as fervently as in the past. Nowadays its more like buy what you need and eat to stay hunger.
Places with good food are few and far between. Only the few good stalls are well patronised. The rest are only doing reasonable business. Food in the foodcourts are just passable. Even the best of food and ingredients will turn out bad in the hands of foreign workers. And hawker centres are just about the same.
And shopping centres are everywhere. Except for the expensive branded goods, the shopping centres are no different from one another. And many young Singaporeans are doing internet shopping. The risk is there but there is no feel in the selection of what you want to buy. But thats the way with internet shopping.
So, what is our favourite past time now? I guess for the younger set, it is the internet forums. Many hours are spent on the internet and the forums. Time spent mostly on idle discussions and mindless arguments.
And for the not so young, it is just sitting inside the shopping centres and enjoying the cool air-con on hot sunny days. Singapore is hot.
This is my perception. What's yours?
